What to Expect
Your Treatment Journey
You are not as far away as you may think from getting a beautiful smile!
Step 1 – We begin your treatment journey with a consultation so that we can discuss your smile goals with you and create a treatment plan aimed at giving you a healthy, beautiful smile.
Step 2 – To plan your treatment and to create your aligners, we start by taking a 3D scan of your teeth and gums. In addition to x-rays, we’ll check for any underlying conditions that could affect your treatment. They are then sent to Invisalign® laboratories for manufacture.
Step 3 – The third step involves receiving your first set of custom aligners.
At this appointment, tooth-coloured “anchors” will be added to your teeth so your removable aligners will stay in place.
These will be an identical colour match to your actual teeth, so they won’t be noticeable. We’ll provide you with all of the information you need to continue your treatment at home, as well as enough aligners to last until your next session.
Step 4: You’ll visit every 6 weeks or so to get new aligners, make sure your treatment is proceeding well, and make any necessary tweaks.
Step 5 – Your new look! You’re finished. You’ll be given removable retainers to make sure your smile stays as beautiful as it is now!

What is Invisalign®?
Invisalign® is a transparent aligner-based orthodontic treatment that replaces fixed metal braces with clear aligners. They are removable, so you may eat normally, or remove them for special events or when being recorded or photographed.
How Does Invisalign® Work?
Invisalign® softly repositions your teeth with a series of transparent aligners. Each aligner differs slightly from the last, exerting pressure to precise teeth. Teeth naturally move away from pressure so your custom-created aligner series progressively moves your teeth into the perfect position for a dazzling smile.
How long does it take to straighten teeth?
The usual treatment time is 9-12 months. Your dentist will be able to tell you how many aligners you’ll need and how long treatment will take if you stick to your treatment plan before you begin.
Is Invisalign® uncomfortable?
Expect minor discomfort throughout the first weeks. This is quite natural, and the discomfort is usually not severe. If necessary, over-the-counter medications such as paracetamol can be used to treat general aches. Aligners are more tolerable than traditional braces, and aching will subside after a few sets of aligners. It is common to feel pressure while putting on a new aligner.
How should I take care of my teeth while using aligners?
One of the nicest aspects about transparent aligners is that they are removable, allowing you to clean your teeth twice daily as usual. Brushing after eating is recommended for optimal care since it reduces the amounts of acid in your mouth and saliva that might become stuck.
What are my alternatives to Invisalign®?
Other orthodontic methods, such as metal braces and lingual braces, are available to produce the appearance of straighter teeth. For everything we don’t perform here at The Dental Lounge, we’ll gladly send you to a recommended professional orthodontist.
