What is a Dental Bridge?
A dental bridge is a “false” tooth that is attached to a healthy tooth to cover the gap between your teeth. Dental bridges can be used to replace one or more missing teeth and help preserve your oral health.

Benefits
Why Bridges?
Losing teeth is – unfortunately – inevitable at some point. For some, it’s simply an inconvenience and for others it leads to a long road filled with discomfort and discontent.
Missing teeth may result in problems with your bite which can lead to jaw discomfort. Another reason for replacing a missing tooth is to stabilise the remaining teeth. When you have a new gap, neighbouring teeth often shift or tilt into the space. Tilting teeth may cause exposed roots and sensitivity as well as difficultly cleaning leading to gum disease.
Dental bridges are a great way of replacing missing teeth and will improve your smile as well as your dental health.

KNOWHOW
What To Expect When Getting A Bridge…
Here’s a quick guide to getting a bridge:
1. Your first appointment is to prepare the teeth next to the gap. Sometimes this means removing some of the enamel to make space for the fitting. Please don’t worry, you won’t experience any discomfort as you will have a local anaesthetic if needed. At this appointment you will also have impressions or scan taken – these are sent to a dental laboratory who will make your bridge.
2. After approximately two weeks we will have your bridge ready to fit. This is a quick and easy appointment where we will check that your new bridge looks and feels comfortable before we cement it in place.
3. Living with a bridge may required some extra steps in your daily oral hygiene routine. At you fitting appointment we will teach you how to clean around the bridge properly to avoid any gum-related problems.

FAQs
A few things we thought you’d like to know…
What is the difference between a bridge and a denture?
What treatment will be best for me?
What are the benefits of dental bridges?
Is it possible to have a dental bridge at the same time as another dental treatment?
Absolutely! If you would like more than one treatment, we will design your entire treatment plan to work in the best way for you.
Does Teeth Whitening work on dental bridges?
Unfortunately teeth whitening doesn’t work on bonded bridges. Tooth-coloured bridges are made with a porcelain outer layer. Porcelain is non-porous and therefore doesn’t absorb whitening agents. If you would liketo lighten you teeth we recommend doing this before having a bridge so that the new bridge matches your brightened smile.
