Dentures at The Dental Lounge

Unlike most, our Principal Dentist, Paul Middleton, discovered his passion for dentistry whilst becoming a Dental Technician. This puts Paul in a niche expert position, having studied dentistry from both sides of the fence, so to speak. Both from the technical, construction process and the clinical environment treating patients.

What does this mean for you?

Because we understand the full potential of removable prosthetics (dentures), it allows us to design genuinely comfortable dentures that look remarkable. Paul regularly attends masterclass clinics both to teach and learn the most innovative techniques to create the best dentures possible for you.

Benefits

A Discreet Dental Solution

Having your dentures made is a dicreet solution to common problems with eating and speaking and has the added benefit of filling your facial features for a more youthful appearance.

By design, the best dentures are virtually invisible meaning that our patients don’t realise just how common they are. You can be comfortable in the knowledge that your friends won’t know you have them either!

During your consultation, we’ll listen to your wishes and concerns when it comes to your smile. After that, we will explain the process and options so that you can make an informed decision about how you wish to move forard with your treatment journey.

Knowhow

Dentures Of All Shapes & Sizes

We have numerous types of dentures to suit all kinds of situations. Dentures fall into two categories – full or partial dentures – and are selected depending on your needs. A partial denture is commonly used to complete the space and aesthetics of one or more missing teeth. When all of the teeth in an arch need replacing, a full denture is a likely option.

KNOWHOW

A New Smile In Just 4 Visits

Here’s a quick guide on what to expect at each appointment:

1. First impressions. Here we will take a mould of your mouth to begin the process of making your bespoke dentures.

2. Second Impressions & Bite Record. At this appointment you will have a second set of impressions and we will record the resting position of your jaw and how your teeth bite together. These measurements help to prevent problems like aching jaws. Together, we will select the tooth shade / colour that best mataches your appearance.

3. Your Try-In. Before finishing your dentures we will have a wax “mock-up” of your denture for you to try. If you are happy, we will proceed to the next stage. If not, we’ll ensure that changes are made before fitting your new dentures.

4. Fitting your new dentures! On your “new smile day”, we make any last minute adjustments to ensure your comfort and provide guidance on getting used to, and looking after your dentures.

FAQs

A few things we thought you’d like to know…

What are dentures made from?
Dental laboratories can create dentures from a variety of materials. Acrylic is a material frequently used because of its lightweight properties and ability to create bespoke tooth-coloured shades. Cobalt chrome is another material commonly used to make the frames for new teeth. Compared to acrylic versions, these are thinner and generally more comfortable.
What are the alternatives to dentures?

It does depend on your indivual circumstances. Bridges may be a suitable option if remaining teeth are stable. Implants are another good option and are currently the nearest to natural teeth as they replace the tooth root. If you are looking to replace a missing tooth, please contact us and we will happily take you through all of the options available.

What can I expect with new dentures?

Our goal is to ensure you are comfortable wearing your unique dentures when they are fitted. To ensure longevity and maintain your oral health, we will ensure that you can bite properly and understand how to care for your dentures.

At this stage, minor adjustments are common. Just like a new shoe, it does take time for new dentures to feel natural but they should not create sore spots or ulcers. If you are experiencing discomfort please call us and we will adjust the denture for you.

Why do my new dentures feel so big?

The mouth is incredibly sensitive. By design, it is the first line of defense to prevent us swallowing foreign objects. Remember a time that you’ve had a thin hair in your mouth and how irritating it is? Now think of a denture-sized hair – you would know about it! The more you wear your new dentures the more “normal” they will feel.
